About the Marian Wilder Award

The Marian Wilder “We Are Able” Award is presented annually to United Methodist churches or church related agencies in the North Georgia Annual Conference who have made ministry with children, adults, and families a focus on their outreach, service, and witness in their communities.

  • These churches and agencies will serve as models for all of us about how to connect to and celebrate the gifts, skills and abilities of all God’s people by particularly choosing to work with and for members of the disability community.

  • Congregations and agencies that win this award will have been intentional in their efforts to engage children, adults, and families impacted by disabilities in worship, study, service, and leadership

This award is given in honor of the service of Marian Wilder and her commitment to utilize her gifts, skills, and commitments to help build a world that is fairer, more just, more accessible, and more inclusive than the one she inherited. Marian has worked for decades to support organizations and ministries that share her commitments. Ms. Wilder played a major role in the creation of the Aldersgate Homes ministry and has remained a faithful board member for over 30 years, including 20 years serving in the capacity of board president. She has faithfully supported the ministry with her own resources, as well as connected Aldersgate Homes with other various resources since its inception.
